This ceremony is called “Doljabee” Dol means first birthday, and “jabee” means to grab.
The baby chooses his destiny and predicts his future profession by grabbing specially prepared items.
Common items used in a “doljabee” ceremony. Coins represent blessing in finance, rice to never go hungry, thread for long life, a bow and arrow for a warrior spirit, and a calligraphy brush for academic scholarship.
